MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd. Receives First Order of Nine Cargo Handling Cranes for People's Republic of Bangladesh

MITSUI E&S Co., Ltd. (President: Takeyuki Takahashi, headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo, hereinafter, "MITSUI E&S") has received an order from Chittagong Port Authority, People's Republic of Bangladesh for nine cargo handling cranes including three Ship to Shore Gantry Crane (MITSUI -Paceco Portainer) and six (6) Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes (MITSUI -Paceco Transtainer), and other container handling equipment to be used at Matarbari Port. This is the first order for cargo handling cranes for Bangladesh.

In Bangladesh, demand for containerized cargo has been increasing in line with economic growth, and is expected to rise further in the future. The Matarbari Port is being developed as Matarbari Port Development Project in Matarbari area, Cox's Bazar District, Bangladesh, with an ODA loan provided by the Japanese government. The project aims to enable large vessels to call at the port in Bangladesh and to meet future increases in cargo demand. The project is expected to make a significant contribution to the accelerating economic growth of Bangladesh.

MITSUI-Paceco Portainer to be delivered under this project will be among the largest quayside container cranes in Bangladesh, capable of handling large vessels, and are equipped with a seismic isolation device to meet the regional characteristics of Bangladesh, an earthquake-prone country. The project will contribute to the development of the country's logistics hub and ensure its functionality in the event of a disaster.

Since the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake in 1995, MITSUI E&S has been developing Ship to Shore Gantry Crane with seismic isolation devices to maintain port functions in the event of an earthquake. The order was received in recognition of the high-quality cranes of MITSUI E&S and its technological expertise, such as its seismic isolation system.

MITSUI E&S delivered Japan's first container handling crane to the Port of Kobe in 1967 at the dawn of containerization. It has since delivered more than 470 MITSUI-Paceco Portainer and more than 1,700 MITSUI -Paceco Transtainer to terminals in Japan and overseas. As a pioneering crane manufacturer, MITSUI E&S will continue to contribute to the efficiency of port operations in and outside Japan by providing high-quality cranes, various systems to support terminal operations, and environmentally friendly products.
